A Closer Look at Plus Size Bridesmaid Dresses
When it comes to choosing bridesmaids to be in a wedding, most brides consider choosing close friends and relatives of both her and the groom. Size or physical appearance typically have very little, if anything, to do with making the choice for wedding attendants.
Therefore in any one given wedding, a great variety of different size women may be walking up the aisle. In most ceremonies, these women are all wearing the same style dress. Therefore, it is important to consider the specific body types that you choose to be bridesmaids when thinking about the type of dresses they will wear. Not all dresses flatter every body type. This is especially true when considering plus size bridesmaid dresses.
The decision of the dress for a bridesmaid is the responsibility of the bride. Therefore, petite brides may not consider all of the factors involved in plus size bridesmaid dresses. One of the most important factors to keep in mind when choosing plus size bridesmaid dresses is making your bridesmaid feel comfortable about what she is wearing.
Many plus size women feel more self conscious in outfits that show much of the bare skin of their arms. For this reason, try to stay clear of strapless or spaghetti strapped dresses. A better choice for plus size women is often wider tank style sleeves, short sleeves, or even long sleeve dresses for winter weddings. Shawls are also another consideration to compliment strapless or thin strapped dresses.
The best style choices for plus size bridesmaid dresses are either A line or empire cut. These styles compliment larger bodies and often make the wearer feel more at ease. Try to stay clear of thin material styles that cling to the body.
When thinking about the appropriate length of plus size bridesmaid dresses, consider going with a longer length rather than a shorter length. Just as with the arms, showing a lot of leg is also typically not a preference of plus size women. In addition to concealing flesh, longer lengths make people look taller which in return makes them also appear thinner with a slimmer silhouette.
Having a plus sized bridesmaid does not mean that the bride must give up on her dream dresses for the ceremony attendants. She can still pick the color, style, and material of the dress. However, it is important to keep the sizes of the girls in mind. Talking with the bridesmaids and asking their preferences on dress styles may also be wise. Some plus size women do not mind showing more arms or legs than others.
Base the style of plus size bridesmaid dresses on the likes of the plus size women. You may even want to take your largest wedding attendants along to try on different styles. Keep in mind that not only is it important that the women wearing the dresses be comfortable, you also want styles that will be appealing for the ceremony and pictures.
